The mountain communities are dependent on the forests and its resources for their livelihoods. However, as the global scenario has been changing extensively, the mountains are suffering harsh environmental degradation resulting in scarcity of resources of daily substances such as food, fuel, water and fodder, etc., leading to rural out migration, particularly males to the urban in search of employment. Our efforts are focused on supporting mountain communities through innovative livelihood interventions and poverty reduction strategies. AT India promotes a value chain development approach to enhance income of mountain communities by expanding access to information, financial services and micro-finance and strengthening farmers’ groups, cooperatives and agri-businesses. It also involves value chain analyses of products and services and the identification of niche products.
